Passing on an old hard disk drive

Whenever you sell, trade or give away a system, you should always make sure your old data is no longer on the drive. There are various ways to do this, one could simply format the drive, however the data could still be retrieved. Or you could do a secure erase with a special program designed to securely erase all data, never to be recovered again. If you are a business, you should never pass on or dispose of a hard disk drive with any data on it, always have it securely erased. It may cost you a little, but it can save your business if someone was to attempt to recover your data and steal your business or customer info. If you choose to retain your drive and data, wrap it up in plastic and seal it with an authorization notice to prevent unexpected use.
