Fire suppression

Occasionally a computer will fail catastrophically and present a fire danger. So what do you do when you see smoke coming out of your PC?

Always disconnect the power to the computer when you see smoke and DO NOT use it again until it has been checked out by a qualified technician.

Always have a fire extinguisher close by. Every home should have at least one and possibly more. When planning your fire protection for home & office, remember to include your computer, however you may want to consider the type of extinguisher you use on your computer. Standard ABC dry chemical extinguishers use a powder that can potentially damage your computer. This power when used can get into the hard disk drive and crash the heads, it is also very difficult to clean afterwards. We recommend the use of Halon type or CO2 gas extinguishers, they are clean and the gas can get into areas that dry chemical can not.

Always use common sense when dealing with fires of any kind! And always use the correct extinguishers for the different types of fires.
