Dust can accumulate within your monitor over time. This dust contains a variety of elements from smoke particles to metal particles or just dirt. Your monitor should be cleaned out with air at least once a year to prevent dust from accumulating on the circuit board traces. These deposits can cause some high voltage circuits to short out, causing the monitor to fail or burn out. This example shows dust accumulations on the board traces, one in particular (white circle) show how dust can bridge air gaps on a board designed to provide a greater insulating factor for high voltage. With dust in this gap, power can use the dust as a conductor, thus jumping the gap and resulting in a short circuit on the board. Canned air is usually not going to have the power to blow the dust away, this should be done with a compressor using around 25 - 45 psi. and the monitor cover should be removed for the process.BEWARE! removing the cover exposes you to extremely high voltages, even when it is unplugged and several days after it's been unplugged. This is an operation best left to a qualified technician. High voltage can kill
